Biography
Dr. Olu Agunloye obtained B.Sc. (Hons.) and Ph.D. degrees in Physics respectively in 1970 and 1974 from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria and thereafter a Masters degree in Applied Geophysics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT, Cambridge, USA in 1976.
Dr. Agunloye was a Lecturer at the Department of Physics, University of Ibadan, from 1974 to 1981 and Visiting Scientist, Department of Applied Geophysics, MIT, 1979 to 1980. He left the university system in 1981 for the private sector where he established and operated an instrumentation company and a geophysical prospecting outfit from 1981 to 1987.
Dr. Agunloye was the pioneering Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC from 1988 to 1994. During his tenure he instituted several IT driven innovative schemes that were aimed at restructuring road administration in Nigeria like the National drivers Licence, National Motor Vehicle Administration and the Revised Highway Code; and with these, the Commission was easily recognised as one of the most effective government organisations in Nigeria.
After his disengagement from FRSC, Dr. Agunloye reverted to his previous vocation on instrumentation, IT and geophysical prospecting in 1995. He also served as Technical Consultant for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, in Addis Ababa between 1995 and 1997.
Dr. Agunloye was the Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Power and Steel, 1999-2000 and later to the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation from 2001 to 2001. He later became Honourable Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; first as Minister State for Defence (Navy) and full Cabinet Rank Minister of Power and Steel between 2001 and 2003.
Dr Agunloye has made systematic contributions to the development of eGovernment strategies and its implementation in Nigeria since March 2004. The eGovernment project has gone through four development stages and is now at the eReadiness Capacity Building and eGovernment Solutions roll-out.
